The people who voted for Trump don't realize who controls the time machine.

What do they think they are getting? A trip to the late nineteenth century of course, and the American cultural and racial norms that existed then. They think they got tax breaks, Christian primacy, and a return to the rule of white, Christian, British-descended, patriarchal culture in a democratic republic. The only one of these reasons they acknowledge -- or maybe even have a conscious awareness of -- is the tax breaks.

What these people don't realize is the ones who paid for Trump's campaign, the ultra-wealthy, control the time machine and that's not where we are going. We will instead return to 17th century Great Britain, with a ruling wealthy elite and the middle-class reduced to the upper-level military and patronage-beholden civil servants (not incidentally, just like today's Russian Federation and the PRC).

With the middle-class gone the 1% will have no economic force to oppose them. So basically the rich have promised the ethnocentric ignorant a return to a time when only white people were in charge, in return for the their being the oligarchs' foot soldiers.

But these clueless victims of propaganda don't understand that the time machine will go further back, that they too will be oppressed, and they will be shocked when, inevitably, their own way of life is wiped out. Because modern feudalism will require that everyone by held down. Everyone.

And so someday we will be able to say 'I told you so.' But it will be a phrase filled with cold comfort and bitter tears.
